Devan Stieber – MLK Day Team Chicago College Showcase Experience
I am currently a junior at Hempstead High School, and I play for the Dubuque Soccer Club. I am writing about my experience at the Team Chicago College Showcase, in hope that it will promote more young adults to attend college showcases in the future. The first thing we got was a sheet telling us the color and number of shirt we were. They gave you this information in advance, so you can pick which colleges you are interested in and tell them your color and number. Next we were given a schedule of the time we played and which team we were on. The team’s alternated players so you can meet new people which helps coaches see how you work with different people. Each individual played 3 games, that were 20 minutes long. When it was time for lunch we were given food and while we ate they had a question and answer session where all of the visiting college coaches came down onto the field and anyone could ask them questions. There were about 25-30 college coaches all from different divisions. College showcases are a great opportunity to showcase your talents, meet new people, and get to know more about which colleges you would like to attend. If I had anything to say to any students that are thinking about going to a college showcase it would be, don’t be afraid to go by yourself, it’s a great opportunity you don’t get often.
