2016 Summer Developmental

During the first two weeks of developmental practice and games, we have seen a tremendous improvement in all players! In the younger groups with coach Katie, we focus the most on dribbling and how to pass the ball. Learning the correct form and technique is vital for learning to play soccer. Each day, we play several games that help teach kids when to pass to a teammate, or dribble the ball into space. We play games of knock out and sharks and minnows to teach them that keeping your head up and keeping small touches while dribbling is important. This is so they are able to protect their soccer ball from others. We then end with scrimmages to get them really playing the game of soccer and to get into the playing environment. With coach Kelsey, the goal is very similar, but this group is a bit older. We focus more on fine tuning their skills, and really look to advance their knowledge of the game. We play lots of scrimmages and small sided games to get the kids working together.

On Sunday developmental days, we have a practice, and then we play our games all together. The focus for a lot of coaches is to really get the team to work together as a unit,  and for the U8 and U10 leagues, we have referees to get the older kids ready to move onto club. The younger groups we have the coaches on the field acting as refs and coaches to teach the kids how the game works and the rules. With this program, we will resume again July 10. The effort in all the kids and coaches has really made improvements in all teams and each players' ability. We are excited for the next four weeks of soccer developmental for this summer!
